The assessment objectives state the specific targets that are set for learning. They define what students will be able to accomplish as a result of their studies. The objectives of MYP projects encompass the factual, conceptual, procedural and metacognitive dimensions of knowledge. Listed below are the objectives of the personal project specifically.

Standardization and Moderation
Standardization and Moderation
As with the assessment of the formal coursework in the IB Diploma Programme (the so-called 'IA's'), the assessment of the Personal Project is externally validated by IB examiners signifying its importance as the capstone of the Middle Years Programme.
Step 1: Standardization by UNIS faculty
Every supervisor provides an initial assessment of their students' Personal Projects. Every project is then anonymously assessed by two more teachers. In a 'standardization session' in March all assessment is compared and final summative achievement levels are established. These levels are communicated to the students.
Step 2: Moderation by the IB
The standardized achievement levels are submitted to the IB for external moderation. This means experienced IB examiners will check whether the teacher assessment is accurate. If so final grades are established. These final grades are published on the IB issued Personal Project Certificates.

Final Grades
Final grades are awarded by converting achievement levels for the three assessment criteria (planning, applying skills, reflecting) to a score out of 7. This score is reported on the student's report card. The following statements describe the performance of students at each grade for MYP projects:

Unsatisfactory. Produces work of a very limited quality. Conveys many misunderstandings of the process of learning independently. Very rarely demonstrates critical thinking. Very inflexible, rarely shows evidence of knowledge or skills. - Failure to obtain the necessary credit to obtain the UNIS Diploma.

Unsatisfactory. Produces a report of limited quality. Communicates limited understanding of the process of learning independently. Demonstrates limited evidence of critical thinking. The student demonstrates limited evidence of transfer of knowledge or approaches to learning skills into the project. - Failure to obtain the necessary credit to obtain the UNIS Diploma.

Satisfactory. Produces an acceptable report. Communicates a basic understanding of the process of learning independently through the project. Begins to demonstrate some basic critical thinking. Begins to transfer knowledge and approaches to learning skills into the project. - 0.25 Credits awarded towards the UNIS Diploma.

Satisfactory. Produces a good-quality report. Communicates a basic understanding of the process of learning independently through all stages of the cycle of inquiry. Often demonstrates critical thinking. Transfers some knowledge and some approaches to learning skills into the project. - 0.25 Credits awarded towards the UNIS Diploma.

The student communicates good understanding of the process of learning independently through all stages of the cycle of inquiry. Demonstrates critical thinking, sometimes with sophistication.
